Removing FeedBurner

Removing FeedBurner

In the wake of Google’s announcement that they are shutting down Google Reader, I have decided to remove support for FeedBurner, the service they purchased in 2007, from this site.

Routing this site’s RSS feed through FeedBurner was an experiment; since there’s no significant benefit to me in using it, and given some long-standing doubts about its viability as a Google property, severing my ties with it doesn’t present a problem for me.

However, my readers who are subscribed to this site’s feed through FeedBurner will want to update the address in their feed reader. It’s usually as simple as clicking the RSS icon in their web browser’s toolbar or the RSS icon in the footer of the site.

Some (uniformed) netizens have expressed concern over the long-term viability of RSS itself; their fears are unfounded. If you’re interested in that sort of thing, following Brent Simmons (@brentsimmons) could teach you quite a lot. In particular, give Why I Love RSS and You Do Too a read.
