The Camlin the bus ride, however, things were looking up. It was a short, four-block walk to our hotel, the Camlin.

Built in 1926 and recently (2005) remodeled, the hotel is across the street from the Washington State Convention Center and the Paramount Theater. We found everything very accessible to us, from dining to shopping to entertainment.

The hotel staff is great—particularly Murat, who greeted us and told us about the hotel's amenities and some of its past. (Some of the history of the Camlin is documented in a display in the basement.)

Our room is a '10'—as in 210, 310, 410,—one of the rooms at the back of the building that has windows on three sides. It's a studio, but larger than some of the others and certainly all that we need. Well, as long as I have an Internet connection!
